What you'll be listening to
As a Cloud Advocate at Microsoft, I deliver a lot of talks at conferences - often the same talk over and over again. And just like all software projects, building, deploying, and supporting a complex application can be challenging. DevOps to the rescue!
In this session, I'll walk through the process of building a repeatable demo in Azure using Azure Pipelines. I'll talk about the application itself, the complexity of the environment, and the challenges with automation. Along the way, I'll highlight particular sticking points for improving DevOps in any software project, and discuss how Microsoft solves a lot of these problems internally.
Come and see how an application with 15+ moving parts can be rebuilt from scratch with a couple of clicks, and how you can apply those techniques to your own software.
Azure has become an IoT Powerhouse and this session will examine and demo those capabilities. The demo will include a Stranger things inspired wall that combined low power hardware, Azure IoT Platform and containerised AI to allow communication with another dimension without chopping wholes in the wall.
Cosmos DB is great and awesomely fast. Wouldn't be even more amazing if we could use our beloved entity framework to manage it? Let see how we can wire it up and get started
Do you want to learn more about the Cognitive Services offering? What is Artificial Intelligence as a Service? Trying to save time building and training models?
This session is for you and will provide the answers to each of these questions. Using Azure Cognitive Services, you will learn how to empower your business with AIaaS (Artificial Intelligence as a Service) models that are ready for consumption. I will also include some demos using some of these services.
"Microsoft Heart Linux" is a big statement backed up by exciting software releases that give the .Net developer more choices than ever before. But how to get started? Brendan is a former Linux fundamentalist turned .Net Developer and this this talk will cover an essential introduction to Linux, package management and command-line basics - before going on to deploy Linux-based Azure resources.
This session is all about Microsoft Face API in practice!
JK the man behind sswSophie.com will cover what it means to use Microsoft Cognitive Services in real-time, why offline detection libraries are essential and why you should use infrared and depth cameras like Kinect and Intel RealSense in your applications.
This session will discuss the benefits of event-driven application design in a cloud-connected world, and how to leverage reactive programming on platforms such as Azure Event Grid to build extensible and resilient distributed architectures that scale.
Who's doing the talking
I'm a Cloud Developer Advocate for Microsoft with a specialty in DevOps. After spending 2017 in Toronto Canada I'm now back in sunny Australia, based in Newcastle. Formerly a dev at Octopus Deploy (https://octopus.com) and a Microsoft MVP, I have a background in software development and consulting in a broad range of industries. In Australia, I co-organised the Brisbane .Net User Group, and launched the now annual DDD Brisbane (http://dddbrisbane.com) conference. I regularly speak at conferences, User Groups, and other events around the world, and I'm an occasional guest on various podcasts like .NET Rocks (https://dotnetrocks.com) and Hanselminutes (https://hanselminutes.com). Most of the time you'll find me talking to developers and IT Pros to help them get the most out of their DevOps strategies. I also have my own Microsoft Channel 9 show - "The DevOps Lab" (https://aka.ms/devopslab). Check it out for real-world guidance on implementing DevOps in your organisation!
